Founder
DAVID ANDERHOLM, MD
Dr. David Anderholm is the founder of Northern Psychiatric Associates and Linden Place, the premier mental health clinic in the lakes region providing both psychiatric and psychological services for patients of all ages and employs a staff of 17 clinicians and support staff. He completed his undergraduate and graduate school education at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and specialty training at the Mayo Clinic. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a member of the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatrists, and is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

About Dr. Anderholm: Dr. David Anderholm is the founder of Northern Psychiatric Associates, the mental health clinic of choice in the Brainerd lakes region providing both psychiatric and psychological services for patients of all ages with a staff of 17 clinicians and support staff. Doctor Anderholm completed his undergraduate and graduate school education at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and specialty training at the Mayo Clinic. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a member of the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatrists and a Fellow in the American Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Anderholm is a lifelong Minnesota resident having been born and raised in Rochester as the youngest of five children. After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture he spent a year completing research at the Mayo Clinic under the direction of Matt Ames, Ph.D., and at the University of Minnesota under the direction of Jadi Ramen, MD.
After completing his medical studies at the University of Minnesota Medical School he was able to complete his specialty training at the Mayo Clinic with an emphasis in Geriatrics.

Hobbies: Dr. Anderholm enjoys traveling, fishing, and being around anything with a motor.

MELISSA VIRNIG, PMHNP-BC
Melissa Virnig completed her studies at the College of St. Scholastica and is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner. She has worked in most areas of nursing starting out in high school as a nursing home aide. She has been with Northern Psychiatric Associates since the clinic opened in March 2007. She sees adult patients aged 18 and older.
JESSICA EASTMAN, PMHNP-BC
Jessica is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She completed her graduate degree through Walden University. Her nursing career began as a nursing assistant and much of her career has involved caring for older adults. She sees adult patients aged 18 and older.
In her off time, Jessica enjoys spending time with family and friends on one of the many lakes in the Brainerd area. Water activities are a must! When she isn’t on the lake, she enjoys distance running and gardening.
NICOLLE HAGEN, PMHNP, BC
Nicolle Hagen is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She uses a holistic approach to meet the mental health needs of her patients. Her nursing experience includes working with adults for general psychiatric care in addition to special needs populations in group home and community settings. Nicolle enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, camping, biking, and spending as much time outside as she can in the short Minnesota summers.
BETH BECHTOLD, PMHNP-BC
Beth is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She completed her graduate degree through Walden University. Her nursing experience includes working with children, adolescents and adults in both medical and psychiatric settings. She strives to provide patient care in a holistic manner and will work with patients to recognize the value of sleep, nutrition, meaningful activity, and supportive relationships as they relate to mental health. Her goal is to have her clients feel empowered and confident in their treatment. She sees adult patients age 18 and older.
Outside of work, Beth enjoys being active, listening to audiobooks and podcasts, watching her children play sports, and spending time outdoors with her husband, children and pets.
JEANNE KURTZ, PHD, LP
Dr. Jeanne Kurtz is a licensed psychologist and has worked in the mental health field since 1980. She has been with Northern Psychiatric Associates since the clinic opened in March 2007. Her practice includes patients of all ages facing a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, stress and health issues, and weight and eating concerns. She has worked extensively with patients preparing for bariatric surgery and dealing with obesity.
Dr. Jeanne Kurtz is originally from Indiana and now lives in the Brainerd Lakes Area with her husband and has two adult children. When not working, she enjoys sports, reading, travel, and gardening.
In spite of living in Minnesota for most of her adult life, she insists on cheering for the Hoosiers every March. Some illnesses have no cure…
Role: Licensed Psychologist–therapy and psychological evaluations
Education: Doctorate
Specialties: Dr. Kurtz has a general therapy practice with mostly adults. Areas of focus include issues with depression and anxiety, grief and loss with a specialty in the area of bariatric (weight loss) surgery.
About Jeanne: Dr. Kurtz is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, and has a BA degree in psychology from DePauw University and a master’s in clinical psychology from Indiana State University. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Saint Louis University and has worked in the mental health field since 1980. She is married and has two adult children. She enjoys reading, travel, and sports.

Patients Age: Mostly Adults
Hobbies: Watching college basketball is a favorite activity and March Madness is a family holiday.
Favorite Part of your Job: It’s rewarding to see individuals make positive changes in their lives and to help them reach their goals.
AMANDA HINTZ, MSLP
Amanda Hintz is a licensed psychologist in the state of Minnesota. She has practiced at Northern Psychiatric Associates since the clinic opened in March 2007. She has extensive experience working with children and adults, and she facilitates the adult group for the Parent Works program through Crow Wing County Human Services. She provides counseling for a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, loss, and trauma. Amanda is also an EMDRIA-trained Level 1 and 2 EMDR clinician. She works with youth, teenagers, young adults, and adults.
Role: Licensed Psychologist
Education: Master of Arts in Community Counseling
Specialties: I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults. I provide counseling for a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, loss, and trauma. I am also an EMDRIA-trained Level 1 and 2 EMDR clinician.
About Amanda: I grew up in Southern Minnesota and remember visiting the Brainerd Lakes Area in my youth. After graduating with my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the College of St. Benedict in 1990, my husband and I bought a home in the Nisswa area. I completed my Master’s Degree in Community Counseling from St. Cloud State University in 1993. I have been working in outpatient mental health at various local clinics since 1993. I have practiced at Northern Psychiatric Associates since the clinic opened in March 2007.
My husband and I have raised our 3 children in the Brainerd School District and have enjoyed all that this area has to offer. We feel fortunate to live in such a beautiful place.
Licenses: Licensed Psychologist by MN Board of Psychology
Patients Age: Ages 8 to 80
Hobbies: I enjoy time with family and friends on the lake; boating, fishing, stand-up paddle boarding, swimming, and time around the campfire. Our HART rescue dog, Sadie, is a constant companion. I also love to travel, hike, read, and recently re-learned how to crochet!
Favorite Part of Your Job: I love coming to work knowing that I will be surrounded by a wonderful team of professionals whom I am happy to call my friends. I also enjoy seeing my clients grow in self-confidence and find peace as they work through the challenges they are facing. I am proud to be a part of a community that is working so hard to erase the stigma of mental illness.
JENIFER BUDNICK, LMFT
Jen is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Minnesota. She only sees children (ages 2-16) and is currently meeting the requirements to become a Registered Play Therapist. Jen uses a somatic experiential play therapy model and enjoys using play to help children learn new ways to solve problems, understand the world, and process trauma. In her free time Jen enjoys hiking, cooking, reading, singing, and spending time with her family.
PATTY BAYSINGER, LPN
Patty Baysinger is a licensed practical nurse with 36 years of experience working within the community in a variety of settings from nursing homes, the National Guard, the Crow Wing County Jail, home care, and as an assisted living nursing supervisor. Patty assists the clinicians with medication management, phlebotomy, and patient quality assurance.
